Vector File preparation for printing stickers and decals

Preparing Vector files for printing is not complicated and in fact it's easier than a bitmap file. Let's face it. Working with a bitmap file, you have to plan ahead especially on your resolution. Low resolution means jaggy edges and limited usages. Vector files don't need to setup resolution, no jaggy edges and unlimited usages.

In this example I will use CorelDraw 12 for some texts instead of graphics. Keep in mind that this is the same procedure when working with graphics.

1. Here we go. Create your graphics or type in some texts.

2.
Now if you're looking for 1 color texts, just change the color, resize it to any size you prefer and you're done. But if you want to create multi-colored texts or graphics, continue on to step 3.

3. After you finish creating your texts, now you're going to apply an outline to it. Click on the texts to select it. Left click on any color you like in the Color Palette located on the right side of your workspace. For this example, I will use Orange for the fill. With the texts still selected, right click on the black color to apply a black hairline outline

4. As you can see above, the black outline shows up at the front of the texts showing where the letter "a" connects to the letter "m" or vise versa. In this case, the outline doesn't show much either because the outline is too thin.

5. Now in this step, I will bring the outline behind the texts and make it a little bit thicker so it will be more visible. Click the texts to select it and then click the outline tool on the Toolbox on your left workspace. Then click on the "Outline Pen Dialog", the Outline Pen window opens up. On the width drop down, choose 2.0 points. Then check mark the "Behind Fill" box and click "OK". This is how the texts and outlines will look like.

6. This time I will convert these texts to curves. This is a very good idea to do so because sometimes the Printers or Sign Shops don't have the same texts (fonts) on their systems and they won't be able to display the same fonts when opening the file.
